BOB CATLEY GOES TO "MIDDLE EARTH"Bob Catley has finished recording lead vocals at Gary Hughes' home recording studio for his third solo album. The album continues in the gorgeous style set by his previous works. Currently with the working title "Middle Earth" the album is based around J.R.R.Tolkien's "The Lord Of The Rings". Once again the album features the songwriting talents of Gary Hughes with Vinny Burns also returning to embue the songs with his vitality and emotion. October 23, 2000THE DOORS' TRIBUTE ON ELECTRAElectra Records eventually issues "Stoned Immaculate: The Music of THE DOORS" that includes contributions from STONE TEMPLE PILOTS ("Break on Through"), SMASH MOUTH ("Peace Frog"), CREED ("Riders of the Storm" and singer Scott Stapp's "Touch Me"), DAYS OF THE NEW ("The End," "L.A. Woman"), THE CULT ("Wild Child"), AEROSMITH ("Love Me Two Times"), OLEANDER ("Hello I Love You"), and THE MARVELOUS 3 ("People Are Strange"), among others. "Stoned Immaculate" also contains three tracks ("Roadhouse Blues," "Roadhouse Rap," and "The Cosmic Movie") featuring late DOORS singer Jim Morrison. "Stoned Immaculate" will hit stores on November 14. The idea of using original works doesn't seem good as it failed on the Bob Marley tribute. But what's interesting that while THE CULT contributes to this album there's a tribute album to them coming out on Versailles Records. October 19, 2000IMMORTAL HENDRIX - ANOTHER ENTRY IN THE JIMI'S CATALOGUEThe new CD from Jungle Records called "Jimi Hendrix With Curtis Knight & the Squires - 'Knock Yourself Out'" contains archive r&b studio sessions from 1965. By September 1965, Jimi had completed stints as guitar-for-hire with THE ISLEY BROTHERS, Little Richard and others. His next was with Curtis Knight, who gave the broke guitarist a guitar as a welcome incentive to play in his band, THE SQUIRES. Jimi remained with Curtis's band for nine months, until just before Chas Chandler discovered him. Contained on this album are the two studio sessions that took place in October and December 1965. They spawned two singles, included here as the first four tracks. The band's fare of mid-sixties r&b, in a style with Stax and 60's pop leanings, has Jimi's guitar very much to the fore. This is the first time these 1965 studio tracks have been put together - previous exploitative releases have mixed them up with later recordings including many tracks where Jimi only played bass. October 15, 2000THE EAGLES' BOX SET IN THE PIPELINEA disc of live performances, recorded at the end of 1999, will be the only unreleased material on an upcoming THE EAGLES box set, a four-volume package slated for release November 14. There were a number of other rarities under consideration — including early album outtakes; vintage live recordings; the band's sole non-album B-side, "Get in the Mood"; and tracks from last summer's aborted studio sessions — but those were all scratched in favor of more familiar material. Rather than presenting the previously released material chronologically, THE EAGLES box will divide the songs into three thematic discs: country rock, ballads, and straightforward rock. The fourth will contain highlights from the band's ballyhooed New Year's Eve show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last year and from two performances in Las Vegas, including seldom-performed selections, such as a cover of Tom Waits' "Ol' 55" and a new arrangement of "Best of My Love." EAGLES box set track list:

The third one is compiled from the live improvisations (remember "THRaKaTTaK") which regularly proved the highlight of each performance. A CD-ROM track on the second disc contains exclusive live footage. The set released to coincide with the autumn King Crimson tour in the US. TWO FACES OF THE NEW JOHN WETTON ALBUMThe new album from John Wetton with working title "Sinister" now is re-titled to "Welcome to Heaven/Welcome to Hell". As it was with "Voice Mail/Battle Lines" the same material will be released in Japan and the rest of the world under different titles and cover arts. "Welcome to Heaven" will be out in Japan on December 16, with "Welcome to Hell" scheduled to arrive in the end of January 2001. The CD should include a track co-written by JW and Ringo Starr. Malmsteen will donate one of his electric guitars to the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City on Monday, October 16 at 6 p.m. The guitar is a 1980s model Fender Stratocaster that Malmsteen played on an eight-month tour of Japan and Europe last year while promoting his album "Alchemy". The cream-colored guitar features a maple neck and a scalloped fretboard, one of the Swedish-born musician's trademarks. The presentation will be part of his press junket in New York to publicize the new Yngwie J. Malmsteen's RISISNG FORCE album "War to End All Wars" scheduled for release on November 7 through Spitfire Records. NEW RELEASES FROM FRONTIERS RECORDSFRONTIERS Records will release a new bunch of top-notch melodic hard rock CDs. Here they are: TEER - "Teer" October 4, 2000LENNON'S MURDERER IS DENIED PAROLEYesterday state parole officials rejected a bid for freedom, saying Mark David Chapman hadn’t lost his interest in publicity, a drive that fueled his “most vicious and violent act.” It was Chapman’s first attempt for parole stemming from the December 1980 shooting death. Chapman won’t be eligible for parole for two more years. Yoko Ono said, "Myself and John’s two sons, would not feel safe for the rest of our lives. People who are in positions of high visibility and outspokenness such as John, would also feel unsafe." Chapman was interviewed for 50 minutes Tuesday morning at the maximum-security Attica state prison by three parole board members. About four hours later, Chapman was given the board’s one-page determination beginning: “Parole is denied.” The board called Chapman’s killing of Lennon “calculated and unprovoked.” In addition to being one of the most famous musicians in the world, Lennon was also a “husband and a father of two young children,” the board said. “Your most vicious and violent act was apparently fueled by your need to be acknowledged,” the board said. “During your parole hearing, this panel noted your continued interest in maintaining your notoriety.” October 2, 2000GENESIS' ARCHIVE 2 RELEASETwo years after the release of GENESIS "Archive 1967-1975" comes "Archive 2 1976-1992". The box set spans the period from 1976 to the departure of Phil Collins. Packaged in a long box, the 64 page booklet contains previously unseen photos a foreward by Tony Banks and essay by Hugh Fielder. Much of the music has never been released on CD, including a work-in-progress version of 'Mama'. October 2, 2000NEW RELEASE FROM RENAISSANCEThe rumours are confirmed - there's a new RENAISSANCE CD called "Unplugged - Live At The Academy" (Mooncrest Records) containing 12 previously unreleased live tracks recorded in Philadelphia in 1985. I can say this year was great for all the band's fans as there were some live recordings from 70s released as well as singer Annie Haslam solo album. And yes, at the end of 2000 there will be a brand new RENAISSANCE album called "Tuscany".
